A third of Australian employers plan to grow legal team in Q2

Nearly one in three employers surveyed in Australia say they are imminently planning an increase in their in-house legal divisions - a reflection of the shift away from natural resources to professional services in the economy, says a recruiter.

The surprising results come from a survey carried out by recruitment consultancy Hudson Australia. Executive general manager Dean Davidson said: 'This reflects what we now know as the ‘new normal’ and part of the ongoing transition in Australia’s labour markets, with growth shifting away from mining to professional services, ICT, finance and legal across all states.' The strongest recruitment intentions are being seen in Victoria and New South Wales (NSW). Hudson Australia said in a statement: 'NSW remains strong, largely as a result of growth in property and construction as well as ongoing change and transformation projects in financial services and legal, which continue to perform strongly.'
