The statement of remedies follow on from the submissions of the US Department of Justice and 33 state attorney-generals. These bodies want to force Apple to allow links to be made between the apps of rivals and e-bookshops run by Amazon and others. Apple has described such proposals as 'wild and draconian punishment'.

Government interference

But Bill Baer of the Justice Department's anti-trust division said: 'Under the department’s proposed order, Apple’s illegal conduct will cease and Apple and its senior executives will be prevented from conspiring to thwart competition in the future.'
