Caterpillar has appointed Suzette Long as the company’s general counsel and corporate secretary. Ms Long has provided interim leadership to Caterpillar’s law and public policy group since mid-February. The group she will lead includes Caterpillar’s legal services division and global government and corporate affairs division. She brings nearly 18 years of legal experience to the position. She first joined Caterpillar in 2004. In 2013, she became deputy general counsel for the legal services division and led the environmental health and safety, product regulatory and investigations groups. In 2015, Ms Long became deputy general counsel leading the legal support for Caterpillar’s energy and transportation segment. Prior to Caterpillar, she was a lawyer with law firm Gallagher & Kennedy in Phoenix, Arizona.

Engineering company McDermott International has appointed John Freeman senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr Freeman joins McDermott from TechnipFMC where he was most recently special advisor to the integration of Technip and FMC. Prior to the merger of Technip and FMC, Freeman was group (corporate) general counsel for Technip, based in Paris, where he had global responsibility for legal and compliance matters for Technip. Prior to joining Technip in 2009, Mr Freeman was with Baker Hughes Incorporated, where he held a number of different legal and compliance positions. He replaces Liane Hinrichs who announced her intention to retire from McDermott at the end of the year. David Dickson, president and chief executive officer of McDermott, stated: 'The company is grateful for Liane’s contributions to McDermott over the past 18 years, and her leadership of the company’s legal group. We extend our best wishes to Liane for the future.'

Third party spirits producer MGP has appointed Thomas Lynn as its  general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr Lynn has been a partner at Kansas City-based law firm Stinson Leonard Street since 2008 where he advised on corporate and M&A work. He also advised MGP on compliance with securities laws and regarding corporate government matters.

Google IP head Allen Lo is joining Facebook. Mr Lo joined Google in early 2012 from Juniper Networks. He will replace Sam O’Rourke who left the company earlier this year after ten years as IP head.

Kieran Garvey, Deutsche Bank’s UK head of litigation and regulatory investigations, has left the bank. He had been at the bank since 1990. Prior to that, he trained at Slaughter and May and spent seven years at the magic circle firm before moving in-house.
