Described by Law Council of Australia president president Stuart Clark AM as an ‘eminently qualified barrister’, Dr Donaghue will commence as the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia from 16 January for an initial five-year term. With a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and a law degree from the University of Melbourne, Dr Donaghue is a renowned constitutional lawyer who took silk in 2011 and has appeared frequently as senior counsel in cases before the High Court of Australia. He will be replacing former Australian Solicitor-General Justin Gleeson, who resigned from the post in October citing a ‘broken’ relationship with Attorney-General George Brandis.
