Australian lawyers brace for post-Brexit boom

Almost half of Australian law firm bosses believe that Britain's exit from the European Union might herald positive opportunities for their firm, a new survey has found.

The survey, conducted by Eaton Capital Partners, found that 40 per cent of managing partners at Australian law firms believe that Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union presents ‘opportunities’ for their own firm. Only 5 per cent of respondents said they thought Brexit would have a negative impact on their business, while 15 per cent said they thought Brexit was a ‘positive’ development. While some believed that the process of Brexit would generate more work for lawyers at their firms, others felt that the political shift in Europe might prompt more multinational corporations to seek out growth opportunities in other regions, such as Australia.

The respondent pool for Eaton Capital Partners’ survey included country managing partners from firms including Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, Clyde & Co, Jones Day, Hogan Lovells and King & Wood Mallesons, among others.
