Mr MacKay is returning to law practice after an extensive career in politics. He served as attorney general, minister of justice, minister of national defence and minister of foreign affairs in the government of former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, before announcing his exit from politics in May 2015. A lawyer by trade, Mr MacKay qualified at the Nova Scotia bar and worked as a Crown prosecutor prior to pursuing a career in governance that lasted more than 18 years. As a Baker & Mackenzie partner, Mr MacKay will contribute to the firm's growing government enforcement and compliance practice. 'Peter was on the frontlines of the most important legal, geopolitical and business issues affecting Canadian business over the last two decades,' commented Kevin Coon, Baker & Mackenzie's managing partner in Toronto. 'I can't think of anyone who is better placed ... to advise our clients on the legal, business and compliance challenges of today's marketplace.' Sources: Backer & Mackenzie; Financial Post; CBC
