DLA Piper is world's largest litigator

DLA Piper has taken top place in The Lawyer Top 50 ranking of litigation practices - despite shrinking the number of litigation lawyers from 1,850 to 1,610.

This is the second year running that it took first place. Its income in this year's table is measured at US$1.128b, rising by 3.4 per cent from last year. For the Top 50 overall, average revenue rose at the rate of 7.4 per cent. The Lawyer attributes the high growth level to strong levels of litigation (especially related to regulation) and to consolidation among practices. The table is dominated by US firms. The magazine predicts that Morgan Lewis will do well in next year's table when the effect of its recruitment of 227 partners from Bingham McCutchen is taken into account. Freshfields is the top-ranking Magic Circle firm in this year's listing, coming in at 11th. Source: The Lawyer
