Eversheds Sutherland’s international arm has made up 23 partners in a significantly reduced round compared to 2024, when there were 40 promotions.
At 52% the proportion of women making the grade is also down from last year, when the figure was 60%, although this still means that women have been in the majority for the past four years.
Lee Ranson, who is due to step down as CEO of Eversheds Sutherland (International) this quarter, highlighted the “exceptional legal talent” reflected in the promotions, adding: “I have had the pleasure of announcing over 200 promotions to partner and I extend my congratulations to each of our newest cohort.”
A large majority of this year’s cohort, who will assume their new titles in May, are based in the firm’s UK offices, with just three promotions across its continental European network (Düsseldorf, Madrid and Warsaw), two in the Middle East (in Dubai and Abu Dhabi), and a single promotion in Hong Kong.
This contrasts with last year when there were 12 promotions in Europe outside the UK across eight offices, including its Dublin arm, which is in talks to join William Fry.
In terms of practice areas, six of the new recruits to the partnership are corporate finance specialists, three work in the commercial advisory team, four are in employment, labour and pensions, seven form part of the litigation and dispute management team, while three are real estate lawyers.
This will be the last set of promotions overseen by Ranson, who is due to be replaced as CEO of the transatlantic firm’s London-based international business by Keith Froud, who steps up from his current role as managing partner.
Last year, revenue at Eversheds Sutherland International edged up by 3% to £749.4m against flat profits.
In December, Eversheds Sutherland (US) announced the promotion of 10 attorneys to partner, which took effect on 1 January.
