Addressing an event run by ALPMA (the Australasian Legal Practice Management Association), Richard Chew, IP and technology partner at Sparke Helmore, said: 'As a customer you think ‘well I see it in every contract, so it's fine’. But if you think about what you're buying with a cloud service, if you allow the service provider to exclude all liability for loss or corruption of data, then essentially they could do anything and they have no liability whatsoever.'

Take responsibility

Speaking at the Technology for Law Firms expert panel session, Mr Chew warned firms to take responsibility for making their own data secure rather than relying on the cloud supplier to do it for them. Source: Lawyers Weekly
