Capitol Hill

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), set up by 1930s president Franklin D Roosevelt as part of the 'New Deal', is the subject of one of the priority issues for Republicans who won a majority in the Senate in the mid-term elections at the end of last year.

Neutrality

Tennessee Republican senator Lamar Alexander said: 'It’s time for the board to restore stability to workplaces in Tennessee and throughout the country—with nonpartisan decisions made more quickly, assisted by a neutral general counsel.' Another Republican, Senator Mike Lee from Utah, has introduced a bill, the Protecting American Jobs Act, which would stop the GC at the body from issuing and prosecuting unfair labour practice complaints.
