Gibson Dunn has recruited an employment disputes partner in London as it focuses on building its litigation bench in the City alongside its already strong transactional offering.

Robbie Sinclair has joined the firm’s labour and employment practice group as its second partner in London, and will advise on contentious and strategic advisory employment matters with a particular focus on complex litigation, crisis management and investigations.

Gibson Dunn said Sinclair’s hire “provides a platform in the UK for employment litigation matters and meets the key strategic needs of clients in their boardrooms”.

Osma Hudda, co-chair of the London disputes group and co-partner in charge of the London office, said: “Client demand for business protection, complex investigations, whistleblowing and employment litigation continues to rise in the UK, US and other key markets.

“Building on the strong performance of our transactional practices in London, we are executing a focused expansion of our litigation and investigations bench. Robbie’s practice sits exactly at that intersection and squarely meets client demand.”

Sinclair has spent the past 11 years at A&O Shearman and legacy Allen & Overy, where he made partner in 2019. Alongside his experience in employment disputes, he supports corporate transactions and outsourcings. He is an expert on all aspects of whistleblowing, according to his profile on Chambers & Partners, and has a strong reputation for advising financial services clients on regulatory employment matters.

Sinclair joins partner James Cox in the London labour and employment team. Cox, whose practice covers contentious and non-contentious matters, joined the firm in 2016 from Ashurst to launch its employment practice.

He commented: “Robbie expands our senior bench for High Court litigation, team moves and investigations. He immediately enhances our support to corporate, private equity and finance clients through the deal and disputes lifecycle.”

Sinclair’s hire comes just a few weeks after Gibson Dunn recruited M&A partner Simon Tysoe in London from Latham & Watkins, where he had been a mainstay of the energy practice for many years.

The firm has also been building its wider disputes practice in London in recent months, hiring Christopher Harris KC as co-chair of international arbitration and promoting complex commercial disputes specialists Cassie Aprile and Piers Plumptre to partner.

Sinclair commented: “Clients want consistent advice across jurisdictions and a team that can move quickly from advisory to enforcement. I’m excited to build that with colleagues in London, the US and internationally.”
