Intel had been unhappy at the suggestion that Mr McAfee was to rename his current company, MGT Capital Investments, as John McAfee Global Technologies arguing this amounted to trademark infringement as it had bought Mr McAfee's former company, McAfee Associates, in 2010.
Resolved
Now the issue has been resolved with Mr McAfee agreeing not to use the phrases ‘McAfee Privacy Phone’ or ‘John McAfee Global Technologies’ in relation to cyber-security or security-related products and services. Legal action has been settled with neither party admiting to wrongdoing in the settlement.
Retained some name rights
However, Mr McAfee has retained the right to use his name for advertising, promotions and presentations.
