Lawyer Philip Kaufman advised a witness in the case, a colleague in Kramer Levin, not to answer the questions. According to the judge, Chancellor Andre Bouchard, many of the 75 questions were 'benign and did not implicate any privilege'.

Calculating the cost

The fine is intended to cover the other party's legal fees in relation to the deposition and litigation over the sanctions motion. The two parties in the case used to be business partners and Kramer Levin had previously acted in disputes between them. Source: ABA
