Stations Casinos-owner Red Rock Resorts has hired J. Colby Williams as general counsel, replacing chief legal officer Jeffrey Welch, who is retiring later this year.
Williams is joining from his own firm Campbell & Williams, a litigation boutique. As GC, he will oversee all legal, regulatory and compliance matters. He is expected to join the company on or around 8 September.
Las Vegas-based Red Rock Resorts is a holding company that owns and manages Station Casinos, which owns and operates a number of entertainment venues in Las Vegas including casino gaming establishments, movie theatres, bowling and restaurants.
Frank Fertitta III, CEO of Red Rock Resorts, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Colby, a longtime and trusted advisor to the company and to me. His successful and impressive legal track record and his intimate familiarity with our organisation will ensure a seamless transition.”
Williams joins after close to 30 years at Campbell & Williams, where he has managed several precedent-setting cases in areas including commercial litigation, administrative proceedings, personal injury and First Amendment law.
In March last year, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honour reserved for the top 1% of trial attorneys in the US.
Welch, meanwhile, is stepping down from the CLO role ahead of his retirement at the end of the year. He will stay on until then to provide transition support and other services, the company said.
He joined Red Rock Resorts in 2017 as CLO after more than two decades in Deutsche Bank’s legal department, most recently as managing director and senior counsel. He started his career at White & Case.
Fertitta said: “I want to thank Jeff for his leadership and contributions that have positioned us for continued success, and to wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
In other hospitality-related in-house moves, back in March US entertainment and event venue businesses Madison Square Garden Entertainment and Sphere Entertainment – owner of the Las Vegas Sphere – hired Meta’s deputy GC Allen Lo as both companies’ CLO, replacing Laura Franco who departed last year.
Also in March, Marriott Vacations Worldwide promoted Andrew Marcus to GC, replacing James Hunter, who was retiring.
