Fraudsters are ringing members of the public, purporting to be collecting money for local law firm Hawkins/Gibson and then threatening arrest for non-payment. The law firm began to receive phone calls from people who had received these calls and it reported them to the Attorney General.
Fake law firms
In the UK, various organisations have incorrectly been using the names of fake law firms as a way of putting pressure on people to pay arrears. Payday lender Wonga was recently ordered to pay £2.6m in compensation for creating the name of Chainey, D’Amato and Shannon and pretending this was a law firm seeking arrears.
