Dr Sokol runs Alpha Academic Appeals, a business which helps students appeal against their results, charging them between £500 and £1,000 each time. He will have been in his post at the university for less than a year when his three-month notice expires in February. After receiving a letter explaining the university's decision to him, Dr Sokol said: 'Upon reading the letter, one might have been forgiven for thinking that I had set up a brothel for students, with an endless supply of class A drugs. The wisdom or otherwise of King’s’ decision is of no general interest, but the attitude it reflects – the apparent distaste for students seeking paid legal help to appeal against university decisions they consider to be unfair – should be.'
