An online seller of celebrity posters has been disqualified from acting as a director of a UK company for five years after colluding with a competitor on prices.

Trod Ltd managing director Daniel Aston is the first company director to receive such a disqualification from the Competition and Markets Authority for a competition law breach since the Company Directors Disqualification Act came onto the statute book. The CMA found that Mr Aston used an automated repricing software to ensure that he and a competing Amazon seller did not undercut each other’s prices for posters and frames featuring music, film and sporting celebrities. Mr Aston was fined £163,371 and banned from holding a position as director of a UK company for a period of five years. The other company involved, which trades as GB Posters, was granted immunity for reporting the cartel to the CMA and cooperating the regulator’s investigation.
