Financial market data provider Octus has hired Megan Jones as its general counsel, the company’s first since changing its name from Reorg last year.
Jones joins from FactSet, another financial market data provider, where she was deputy GC and corporate secretary. At Octus, she will lead the company’s legal and compliance teams, overseeing all related legal and corporate governance matters.
New York City-based Octus provides market intelligence and data to financial services companies. It was previously known as Reorg, before becoming Octus at the end of October.
Kent Collier, Octus founder and CEO, said: “[Jones’s] outstanding track record at FactSet, combined with her legal expertise and deep industry knowledge, makes her the ideal addition to our executive team. Megan’s passion for the business and customer-focused mindset will be instrumental as we continue to innovate, grow and deliver on our promises to clients, partners and employees.”
Jones spent almost eight years at FactSet across a number of legal positions, including senior counsel, assistant GC for M&A, product and client services, and interim chief legal officer, before taking on her most recent role. She joined FactSet when it acquired her previous company – BI-SAM Group – where she was GC. Prior to that she was assistant GC at fitness event organiser Tough Mudder, her first in-house role.
Jones started her legal career in private practice at boutique entertainment law firm Grubman Indurksy Shire & Meiselas, where she was an associate in its film and TV group.
She said: “I am honoured and thrilled to join the world-class team at Octus as it continues to grow and lead the market in credit intelligence and data. I look forward to helping serve clients across all aspects of the credit market and ensuring both our internal teams and our customers succeed in a rapidly evolving market.”
Jones fills the seat left vacant by former GC Rochelle Boas, who left in October last year prior to the rebranding to join travel tech business Sabre Corporation as CLO. She spent just over a year at Reorg, having previously been GC at cannabis-industry software provider LeafLink and deputy GC at Travelport Worldwide. She also spent six years as a corporate associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.
