Starbucks puts general counsel in charge of workforce

The company has elevated its general counsel Lucy Helm to take over the people role, following management changes at the global coffee chain.

Global coffee chain Starbucks has given its general counsel a top role in the company. Lucy Helm moves to become the company's new chief human resources head - with the title Chief Partner Officer. The lawyer, who has headed up the legal and corporate affairs department for five years, will now be responsible for staff learning and development, compensation and benefits and the organisational development of the company's workforce. She will be in charge of some 300,000 staff worldwide. The move comes as the new chief excutive seeks to deal with a number of employment issues which are embroiling the company.
