US data and analytics company Alteryx has hired Steve Holsten as chief legal officer, replacing Christopher Lal who departed the company in May.
Holsten joins from venture fund ElevenX Capital, where he was also CLO. At Alteryx, Holsten will head up its global legal function and oversee corporate governance, compliance, risk management and business transactions.
Irvine, California-based Alteryx provides AI-powered business analytics software to large global enterprises.
Andy MacMillan, CEO at Alteryx, said: “Steve brings a rare combination of deep legal expertise and highly collaborative leadership. He has helped organisations navigate complex transitions, rapid growth and evolving regulatory environments throughout his career. His experience will be invaluable as we continue delivering solutions that customers can trust to power business-critical decisions.”
Holsten arrives after a year and a half at ElevenX, having previously led the legal team at software company Bonterra. He was also previously general counsel at Workfront, CLO at Vubiquity and GC at Eloqua.
He also had in-house stints at VeriSign as director for legal and Winstar Communications as director for commercial and legal operations.
Prior to that he worked in private practice at Greenberg Traurig and legacy firms Fleischman and Walsh, Gurman Blask & Freedom and Riordan & McKinzie.
Holsten said: “What drew me to Alteryx is both the team and the solutions we’re delivering to customers at a time when confidence in AI has never been more important. As organisations accelerate their use of AI, they need to move quickly while maintaining the accountability, transparency and controls required to operate at enterprise scale. I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundation already in place at Alteryx and helping organisations modernise with confidence.”
Lal, meanwhile, left the company last month to join customer engagement platform Braze, where he is GC and corporate secretary. He spent almost a decade at Alteryx, having previously been GC at Tillys, Thompson National Properties, Sunstone Hotel Investors and RemedyTemp.
He previously worked in private practice at O’Melveny & Myers, where he was latterly a counsel.
Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “Since mid-2016, we took Alteryx public, had years of growth and global expansion, made several acquisitions and entered a new phase of ownership under Clearlake Capital and Insight Partners. Along the way, I had the opportunity to work with many amazing colleagues, but one of the things I’m most proud of is the world-class legal team we built.”
