US fintech Basic Capital has hired Jake Eigner as its first general counsel and head of regulatory affairs.
Eigner joins from Goldman Sachs, where he was a vice president in the bank’s legal department. Eigner brings expertise in ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), retirement plan regulation and financial services law. At Basic Capital, he will lead all legal and regulatory strategy and work closely with the founding team to support the company’s growth.
New York-based Basic Capital provides a platform for companies to offer a better 401(k) retirement savings plan experience for their employees.
Abdul Al-Asaad, founder and CEO of Basic Capital, said: “Jake is one of the few lawyers in the country who has lived on both sides of the retirement industry. As a top-performing investment professional and as a sophisticated ERISA practitioner, he brings a combination of legal depth and commercial instinct that will help us deliver an enterprise-ready product as we scale.”
Eigner arrives after just over two years at Goldman Sachs, having previously been an associate at Groom Law Group, where he advised clients on qualified retirement plans and Department of Labor fiduciary rules. Prior to starting his legal career, he worked at Fisher Investments, where he marketed 401(k) funds directly to plan sponsors.
Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “I’m lucky enough to join a group of high performers backed by some of the sharpest VCs in the country, and am incredibly excited to contribute to the team.”
