Research from the International Legal Technology Association shows that half of firms increased their tech budgets in 2014 and that most spend between 2 and 4 per cent on IT. Main areas of spending include computers, network upgrades and servers, printers and antivirus protection.
Discovery phase
Some suppliers are recording increases in purchases and inquiries, but law firms appear to be proceeding cautiously. Chris Cartrett of Aderant said: ‘There is without question a larger number of people who are truly in that discovery phase that we’re expecting to come to market here in the next 12-18 months.’
Increased productivity
Consultant Peter Zeughauser says that firms are being driven by ‘the need to improve the quality of work product, deliver better service, and the need for increased productivity to cut the cost of people’. Source: Bloomberg Business of Law
