The New York City Bar Association has reported a rise in the number of women and minorities on management committees in the city's top law firms. The 2016 Diversity Benchmarking Report revealed that the percentage of women serving on management committees rose from 20.3 per cent in 2015 to 23.6 per cent in 2016 last year whilst minorities rose from 7.1 per cent to 9.4 per cent. However, the NY Bar also found that nearly half of the participating firms had no members of racial or ethnic minorities on their management committees whilst one in five law firms had no women on its management committee. Minorities make up up less than 10 per cent of all partners in the surveyed firms. Furthermore, minority and women partners are concentrated at the income level rather than equity, the research found. There was also a increase in LGBT lawyers, rising from 1.6 per cent in 2004 to 4.1 per cent. Source: New York City Bar Association
