Women lawyers lag behind men by A$20k a year in South Australia

The research is contained in the Practising Certificate Survey 2014-15, which compares the pay of 343 male and female lawyers. Despite the fact that the disparity can be partly explained by the greater number of women working part-time, Law Society president Rocco Perrotta said: 'It is difficult to ascertain to what extent the income imbalance is due to more females working part-time. Nevertheless, the report suggests that women do not have the same earning opportunities as their male counterparts.'

Part-timers

About 41 per cent of women work part-time, compared to 13 per cent of men. The average pay for part-timers is A$77,222, while it is A$121,427 for those working full-time. Source: Lawyers Weekly
