Women are billed out at lower rates

A study of over 3,000 law firms has shown that women are billed out at lower rates and that firms have created activities which tend to be 'male', with far fewer being 'female'.

Sky Analytics concludes that female partners are charged for at 10 per cent less in larger firms and 12 per cent  less in smaller firms. Geographically, the difference is the most pronounced in the south central region of the US and least pronounced in the south east and Pacific regions.  The report says: ‘Virtually no women are billed at over $1,000 per hour compared to two per cent of men in Tier 1 [firms with 1,000 lawyers or more]’. The researchers found 177 jobs which are ‘most likely to be done by a man’ including analysis/strategy, international patent prosecution and discovery on-site inspections. There were only four female jobs - including word processing and ‘other’. Source: Sky Analytics
