Jones Day has elected 33 to its partnership in its latest promotions round, a slight decline on last year’s 37-strong cohort.
Women accounted for 42% of this year’s partner class, roughly in line with 2024 when women made up 41% of the group. The promotions will be effective from 1 January.
The majority of promotions were based in the US, with New York and Los Angeles taking four apiece, followed by three in Pittsburgh, two each in Cleveland, San Diego, Atlanta and Miami, and one a piece in Columbus and Detroit.
Outside of the US, London saw the most promotions with four – real estate lawyer Mark Davies and corporate lawyers Ross D’Lima, Robert Harris and Chloe West. The rest of the international promotions were based in Paris, Sao Paulo, Munich, Taipei, Melbourne, Singapore, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf, all with one promotion apiece.
The firm’s corporate practice saw the most promotions with eight, followed by seven in business and tort litigation, which had seen the most promotions in 2024. Financial markets and business restructuring and reorganisation both saw four apiece, with global disputes, IP and real estate all getting two promotions each.
The rest were spread across its investigations and white collar defence (Jeremy Attali in Paris), tax (Lauren Moses in Melbourne), issues and appeals (David Kenneth Suska in Detroit), and antitrust and competition (Kevin Wilcock in Dusseldorf) practices.
Gregory Shumaker, Jones Day’s managing partner, said: “This class of new partners once again reflects Jones Day’s ability to provide our valued clients the guidance and legal solutions for their most complex business challenges across the globe.”
The corporate practice has been active on several large deals this year, including advising on Parker Hannifin’s $9.25bn acquisition of Filtration Group in November and Cadence’s $2.7bn purchase of Swedish company Hexagon’s design and engineering unit.
Lateral hires this year have included two corporate partners from Hogan Lovells in Sydney – Charles Bogle and James Wood – back in January, following former UK lord chancellor and justice secretary Alex Chalk KC’s arrival as a disputes partner in London the same month.
