Top German law firm Gleiss Lutz has made up nine to partner in its latest promotions round, in contrast to just two upgraded a year ago.

Members of the latest cohort are based across Gleiss Lutz’s Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart offices and have developed with the firm since the fledgling part of their careers.

Three of the new partners are women. Currently women make up 14% of the firm’s 86-strong partnership, according to publicly available data tracked by Pirical, with the latest promotions to increase that proportion slightly to 16%.

Gleiss Lutz also announced that a cohort of four have been elevated to counsel. The promotions are effective on 1 January, 2026.

The promotions were concentrated in the firm’s Frankfurt office, where five made partner, with the remaining four split evenly between Düsseldorf and the firm’s Stuttgart headquaters. Most of the new partners – seven – advise in international and cross-border affairs.

In Frankfurt antitrust lawyer Saskia Kirchgessner got the nod alongside debt finance specialist Jan-Alexander Lange, cross-border M&A lawyers Kevin Löffler and Antonius Mann and dispute resolution lawyer Florian Wagner.

In Düsseldorf Katharina Bein, who advises on corporate and capital markets law, was promoted alongside antitrust lawyer Andreas Schüssel, while in Stuttgart Asia-related cross-border M&A specialist Yixiao Li moved up, as did Björn Ebert, who specialises in international commercial and investment arbitration.

Johann Wagner, co-managing partner at Gleiss Lutz, said: “Our new partners and counsel have made a name and a reputation for themselves on the market. These appointments underscore Gleiss Lutz’s sustainable growth and global reach, and are the product of the consistent support we give to new talent and younger lawyers.”

Gleiss Lutz has three further German offices in Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, alongside international bases in London and Brussels. In 2022 it also became the first leading German business law firm to open an office in the metaverse.

In April, the firm was named “Competition Law Firm of the Year” and “Healthcare & Life Sciences Law Firm of the Year” at the inaugural Chambers Germany Awards, held in Berlin.

A recent work highlight for the firm was advising the Dutch Ministry of Finance on the €9.5bn sale of a stake in the German arm of Dutch power grid operator TenneT to a consortium of investors.
