Fujifilm Holdings America Corporation (Fujifilm Americas) has hired Michael Hartman as general counsel, filling the seat left vacant by Sarah Karlgaard’s exit earlier this year.
Hartman joins from Swedish medtech business Elekta, where he was GC for its Americas business. At Fujifilm Americas he will provide legal support for the region’s leadership team.
Valhalla, New York-based Fujifilm Americas is the North American and Latin American unit of Japanese tech business Fujifilm, whose business lines span healthcare, electronics, imaging and business innovation.

Hartman steps into his new role after just over 13 years at Elekta, having previously spent six years as lead attorney for Siemens’ US industry automation division.
He also had earlier in-house roles as GC and chief compliance officer at Employease and legal counsel at CSX Transportation.
He started his career in private practice at Atlanta-based firm Elarbee Thompson Sapp & Wilson.

Karlgaard, meanwhile, departed Fujifilm’s Americas business in May after just under four years as GC to join US healthcare provider HealthPartners.
She was also GC at Canon Medical Informatics for three years before that and also had in-house spells at Allina Health (as senior associate GC) and OptumInsight (as associate GC). She started out in private practice at Lockridge Grindal Nauen.
In other recent US medtech moves, back in March QuidelOrtho hired Nathaniel Sisitsky as chief legal officer from STAAR Surgical, replacing Michelle Hodges who was retiring from the business. And in February, Becton Dickinson hired Lanesha Minnix as GC from Walgreens Boots, filling the seat left empty by Michelle Quinn’s departure last year.
