Law school sees enrolments drop over 50pc since 2010

The Western Michigan University Thomas M Cooley Law School has seen enrolments fall from 4,000 five years ago to 1,880 this year - an example of widespread falls in numbers across the US.

The average fall at law schools in the US is 17.5% over the same period, according to the Amercian Bar Association. But Cooley has suffered more because it is a relatively low ranking school.

The start of stabilisation

A proferssor at another school, Alfred Brophy of the Uinversity of North Carolina School of Law, said: 'As people are deciding not to go to law school, schools that are better ranked are taking students that used to go to Cooley.' But he added that numbers are now starting to stabilise. Source: Crains Detroit
