Brand protection specialists and general counsel from an array of leading companies will join legal, regulatory and enforcement experts in London next month to share their experiences tackling counterfeiters at this year’s Anti-Counterfeiting World Law Summit.

Jaguar Land Rover, Kenvue, Novo Nordisk and L’Oréal are among an array of businesses fielding senior executives at the conference, which is hosted by The Global Legal Post and takes place at the Caledonian Club in London on 15 September.

Chaired by Kirsty Trobe, IP enforcement officer of reusable water bottle maker air up®, the forum, which is in its fourth year, will address topics including the hidden risks of counterfeit auto parts, cross-agency enforcement strategies to tackle phishing scams, Turkey’s emergence as a hotspot for fakes, and the use of deceptive packaging in counterfeit alcohol and perfumes.

Valentina Ranno, L’Oréal’s group general counsel, will join Isla Irvine, head of brand protection and compliance at Tangle Teezer, and Marylauren Ilagan, senior counsel at Olaplex, on a panel examining how the beauty sector is tackling a surge in fake cosmetics and personal care products. The session will explore how counterfeits threaten consumer safety, damage brand reputation and undermine trust, and will highlight the strategies leading beauty companies are adopting to safeguard authenticity, from supply chain transparency to cutting-edge authentication technologies.

Last year, the World Health Organization issued a global alert about fake versions of the popular weight loss drug Ozempic.

Anne Devaud, global head of product security at Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, will join Andrew Fletcher of Gilead Sciences for a session that will examine the challenges faced by both regulators and brands in combating the rise of counterfeit medicines, including weight loss drugs, and assess existing regulations, enforcement strategies and the need for collaboration between the private sector and authorities to protect public health.

Elsewhere on a packed programme, John Flint, director of global brand protection at Kenvue, will join Jack Otto, investigator at the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), on a panel examining Turkey’s emergence as a hub for counterfeit production. The panel is completed by Nikki Consterdine, IP protection manager at Epson Europe, with Ronald Brohm, managing director of REACT, serving as moderator.

Also appearing at the forum is Helen Barnham, head of stakeholder engagement and campaigns at the UK Intellectual Property Office. She will moderate a panel on the dangers posed by counterfeit vehicle parts that features Darshak Kacha, global brand protection and investigations manager at Jaguar Land Rover; Paul Foster, corporate and brand protection investigations manager at Stellantis; Lawrence Bleasdale, business development director at brake specialist TMD Friction; and Tim-Jonas Gottschalk, brand protection manager at MOBIS Parts Europe.

The discussion will focus on how fake parts are becoming harder to detect and the safety risks they create, particularly in critical systems such as brakes, airbags and suspension.

Sponsors of the event include: Cervieri Monsuárez, Crane Authentication, Epstein Drangel, IP House, Mishcon de Reya, Patterson Belknap, SICPA and Taylor Wessing.
