Anti-counterfeiting Law Guide

Welcome to the second edition of the Law Over Borders Anti-counterfeiting Comparative Guide. Concentrating our efforts on several key jurisdictions, our new or updated country chapters outline relevant domestic and international brand protection regimes, but also include new areas of concern such as artificial intelligence and deep fakes, as well as detailing important social media sites or sales platforms dealing in counterfeits.
In addition to our country chapters, we have once again included topic chapters to deal with brand protection issues that transcend any individual jurisdiction’s regime. It is my hope that by doing so the global nature of brand protection and the problem of counterfeiting will be highlighted and, through collaborative effort, we can meet the challenge of counterfeiters who are constantly seeking ways to get around existing legislation with often sophisticated efforts to hide their illicit activity. It is only through cost-effective measures, cooperation between right holders, other industry partners, governments and protection professionals that we can meet this ever-growing challenge.
I wish to sincerely thank my co-editor, Melissa Tarsitano, for putting up with me, providing her unique and insightful perspective and working with me throughout. I am also especially grateful to each of our authors who met the challenges we put before them to provide the most up-to-date and important information relating to brand protection in their individual countries and on their specific topic. There would be nothing to edit without your considerable effort. It has truly been a pleasure working with such a knowledgeable, well recognized and dedicated group of professionals — truly friends.
I also wish to acknowledge the dedication and creativity of the brand protection professionals involved in this project and in the industry generally. As a group, I believe that the IP profession has numerous hard-working professionals who volunteer time that does not result in additional income but helps the team effort we all seek. We have a profession built on civility, sharing and dedication to the protection of brands, rights, and their quest to deal with the counterfeiting problem with the resources they have, the resources and priorities of their government and the legislative framework in their jurisdiction.
A publication like this doesn’t just happen, although sometimes it does feel like magic. Our publishers, Global Legal Post, and most notably Maria Sunderland and Debbie Knowles along with so many on their team, have gently but firmly taken control of the timing and preparation in bringing this book to completion. 
To all friends and family who put up with our traveling, time sensitive requirements, seemingly endless list of high priority issues — you always have our backs.
