AI shopping assistant app Minty has appointed Barbara Sinsley as chief legal and privacy officer, a newly created position.
Sinsley was most recently CLO and chief privacy officer at AI-powered customer experience platform meldCX. At Minty, she will lead the company’s legal and privacy strategy and help the company navigate the data protection, consumer consent and regulatory compliance issues that are created by AI agents shopping on behalf of customers.
Charlotte, North Carolina-based is an AI-powered shopping companion app that helps connect consumers with brands through cashback and rewards.
Jon West, co-founder and CEO of Minty, said: “Trust is fundamental to our relationships with shoppers and brand partners, and protecting sensitive information is a responsibility we take seriously. Barbara has spent her career in industries where consumer data rules were created and enforced. She knows what regulators expect and how to build programmes that hold up when technology moves quickly.”
Sinsley spent just under seven years at meldCX before departing in August. Prior to that, she was general counsel and chief compliance officer at TransUnion for three and a half years, having previously worked in private practice as a shareholder at Barron & Newburger.
She said: “Proactive commerce is creating tremendous opportunities, but it also raises important questions about how consumer and partner information is accessed, shared and protected.
“My role includes not only leading how data best moves between shoppers, agents and our partner brands, but also the development of best new practices in proactive commerce with Minty as the industry leading pioneer.”
In other recent retail-related moves, last month US discount store chain Dollar General said it was promoting Kelly Collier to GC when incumbent Rhonda Taylor retires in December.
In July, luxury home furnishings company RH hired Ryan Hassanein as CLO from healthcare giant McKesson, filling a seat that sat empty for about a year after previous legal head Edward Lee left the company to join sportswear business Vuori.
And in October last year, UK supermarket giant Tesco hired BT lawyer Jeff Langlands as GC of its UK and Ireland business, working alongside group GC Kay Majid.
