Virgin Media general counsel Scott Dresser has resigned only 18 months after joining the company.
London-based Legal Week newspaper reports that the telecoms giant said the top lawyer’s departure resulted from ‘personal reasons’ and would be effective immediately.
Mr Dresser had been with the company since 2005, becoming deputy GC in 2008 before taking the top spot in January 2011 following the retirement of Bryan Hall.
In a statement, Virgin Media said: ‘A search partner has been engaged to conduct a formal process to recruit a new general counsel and a succession announcement will be made in due course.’
Elsewhere, the Power Corporation of Canada announced the appointment of Stéphane Lemay as vice-president and general counsel. Mr Lemay will also become media spokesperson for the corporation. According to North American media reports, Mr Lemay joined the company in 2005 as vice-president, assistant general counsel and associate secretary. Prior to the move, he held various executive and legal positions in companies associated with telecommunications and manufacturing.
Mr Lemay’s promotion comes as Edward Johnson steps down, having passed the Corporation's normal age of retirement. Mr Johnson will now assume other corporate duties within the Power group.
