Former London law firm partner added to Rangers trial

Ex-Collyer Bristow partner Gary Withey has applied to join the case brought by Rangers Football Club against the London-based law firm as a defendant.

Rangers: still playing; still litigating

The proceedings, set for October, have now been delayed while Mr Withey – who played a key role in Craig Whyte’s ill-fated takeover of Rangers in May last year, serving as club company secretary – joins the £25 million damages claim from administrators Duff & Phelps.

'Deliberate deception’

According to The Lawyer newspaper, Collyer Bristow is accused of ‘deliberate deception’ in relation to advice provided to Mr Whyte.
The administrators are represented by Taylor Wessing restructuring partners Nick Moser and Neil Smyth, while Clyde & Co partner Richard Harrison and senior associate Nicole McKinnon are representing Collyer Bristow.
Mr Withey – now at London law firm Segens -- has been unavailable for comment, but newspaper reports that he wishes to have the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations of his conduct contained in the claim. His application will be heard on 10 September.
