Harper Macleod extends reach through Shetland Islands merger

From 1st October, partners Christopher Dowle and Paul Rutherford of Shetland firm Dowle Smith & Rutherford will become partners in Harper Macleod, bringing their ten members of staff with them. A week ago, Harper Macelod took on five partners from the failed firm McClure Naismith.

Oil and gas

Dowle Smith & Rutherford specialises in private client work and also has an estate agency business, a role which is permitted to Scottish lawyers. Lorne Crerar, Harper Macleod chair, said: 'Shetland is one of the most prosperous parts of the Highlands and Islands. It has a strong export base and its role in supporting the oil and gas industry, along with renewables, aquaculture, tourism and more have seen it thrive.' Source: The Lawyer
