King & Spalding recruits healthcare team from DLA in the US

An eight-lawyer, California-based team is poised to leave DLA Piper and to open a base for King & Spalding in Sacramento in September.

'There is no rancour or enmity to the change,' Mr Goff said. 'We are talking about overall commitment to the health-care practice.' Dmitry Kaminsky

The attraction of the team to Altanta-based King & Spalding is to build up strength in the sector rather than in California. Jay Harris, co-chair of the King & Spalding life sciences and health care practice, said: 'We’re not looking to build out a full-service Sacramento office. We are adding this group because they are consistent with our strategic focus in the health care and life sciences space, not because we are hoping to open an office in Sacramento.'

Second move from breakaways

The breakaway group is led by Stephen Goff, who used to be the co-chair of the King & Spalding national healthcare group. The group is largely made up of the same people who joined DLA in 2010 from McDonough Holland & Allen. Sources: ABA; Sacramento Business Journal
