The meeting was called by 51 members of the society, who maintain proceedings earlier in the summer were mishandled, reports the Channel News Asia website. The row kicked off in July when Law Society President Wong Meng Meng allegedly presented the local high court with a letter from lawyer M Ravi’s psychiatrist stating he was unfit to practise.

In a letter presented to the president this week, members voiced concerns over being left in the dark during past proceedings. The letter demanded guidelines to deal with similar situations, and asked whether the council condoned the disclosure of confidential information given to the society about its members, as well as seeking clarity over who will foot the legal costs pursuant to Mr Ravi’s legal action.

A spokesman for the Law Society told the Post that the organisation disputes the allegations concerning its president. He said it stated ‘categorically that at no time did the President of the Law Society appear in court in relation to the incidents in question’.
