Berezovsky backs down from legal dispute

Controversial Russian entrepreneur Boris Berezovsky is to drop a four-year dispute with the estate of his former business partner, less than a month after losing one of the largest civil law suits ever seen in UK courts.

High Court: case dropped

Mr Berezovsky – who lost out on $6.5 billion in his battle against Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich in August – filed the suit against Georgian Badri Patarkatsishvili in 2008, claiming he had interests in Mr Patarkatsishvili’s $3bn estate.

However, a spokesman for London-based law firm Addleshaw Goddard – Mr Berezovsky’s advisors – said the law suit had been withdrawn and neither side admitted liability, reports Bloomberg News.

Assets

‘Following the withdrawal of proceedings between Mr Berezovsky and the Patarkatsishvili family, Mr Berezovsky confirms that he has no claim to any interest in any of the assets currently managed by Salford Capital Partners,’ the firm added.

Mr Patarkatsishvili died in February  2008 age 52 at his UK home. He gained fame after running against Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili in the former Soviet republic’s presidential election just before his death.

The Patarkatsishvili family’s lawyer, Graham Huntley at Signature Litigation, is yet to comment.
