Law college wins mental health award

The Australian College of Law has won a prestigious award for introducing into its curriculum well-being and resilience workshops for lawyers.

Peter McDonald to join Allen & Overy's Sydney office

Kevin Humphries, the New South Wales health minister, presented the college with a Mental Health Matters Award at a ceremony in Sydney yesterday. The college claims that close to 4,000 students have attended the workshops since they were introduced last year, reports the Lawyers Weekly web site.

Depression levels

College lecturer Michael Appleby, who created the course with a colleague, said he had wanted not only ‘to … draw attention to the high levels of depression and anxiety in law students and practising lawyers, but to celebrate a programme to give students the relevant skills and knowledge to help them maintain their own mental wellbeing and to give them information about mental illness and where to seek help’.
