Reed Smith has elevated 29 lawyers to partner in its latest promotions round, up from 24 last year.

The 2026 promotions class is the largest since 2023 when 37 made the cut. This year’s round also includes 30 new counsel, down from 31 a year ago. Women made up 48% of this year’s cohort, more or less in line with last year when Reed Smith said half of its promotions identified as diverse, including women.

The US accounted for the majority of the 2026 promotions (24), with the firm’s New York and Philadelphia offices welcoming the most new partners (four each), followed by Pittsburgh (three), two apiece in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Princeton and one each in Century City, Silicon Valley, Washington DC and Wilmington.

Outside of the US, there were four promotions in London – corporate lawyer Matthew Bowen, structured finance specialist Jennifer Ellis, energy lawyer Liam Hart and litigator Eleanor Ruiz – and one in Singapore: finance lawyer Philip Orme.

The firm’s financial industry group saw the most promotions with seven, followed by six in the global corporate group and three each in its global commercial disputes and insurance recovery groups. The life sciences health industry group, energy and natural resources group and global regulatory enforcement group all saw two promotions a piece, while the rest were spread across entertainment and media, tax, real estate and IP.

Casey Ryan, Reed Smith’s global managing partner, said: “We are proud to welcome this exceptional group of lawyers to our partnership and counsel ranks. Their commitment to client service, legal excellence and our firm’s culture and values has been outstanding.

“Spanning practices and industries across the globe, these promotions reflect not only individual achievements, but also the strength, depth and continued momentum of our firm as a whole. We look forward to their ongoing leadership and contributions to our clients, teams and offices worldwide.”

The firm’s 30 counsel promotions include 17 in the US and 13 in Europe. The London office led the counsel promotions with 11, followed by New York with four. The firm’s commercial disputes group saw the most promotions with seven, followed by four in energy and natural resources, financial and corporate.
