Serious Fraud Office under attack

The UK’s Serious Fraud Office  (SFO) is facing unprecedented criticism after an investigation into allegations of cronyism, misuse of public funds and possible corruption.

According to The Times newspaper, the organisation, whilst cleared of wrongdoing by a Government inquiry, will be questioned by Parliament this week. The current  SFO Director David Green and his predecessor Richard Alderman will have to face  the Public  Accounts Committee with their explanation of events.

Whistleblower claims

Meanwhile, the Financial Times reports that a whistleblower in the SFO has queried the safety of SFO convictions, alleging that the handling of evidence by the agency’s digital forensic unit ‘could not be trusted’.

 The SFO responded saying that the investigation and review reports ‘made some recommendations for improvements and did not raise any concerns about completed cases.”
